Styling Bell Sleeves

Bell sleeves, you either hate them or you don't. We've never owned anything with bell sleeves before, so when we saw this knitted top on Oasap, we were excited to step out of our comfort zone. We didn't hesitate, ok maybe just a little, to add it to our cart. Unfortunately it's one of those things that look stunning on the model/mannequin, and just plain silly on. The sleeves are a bit too belly for our liking. Don't get us wrong, the quality of the top itself is fantastic, but we looked like ostriches wearing it. However, we did try our best to style it, pinning the sleeves back slightly for a more subtle bell sleeve.

We have to warn you though that unlike other pieces we've ordered from the site before, this particular top had an odd smell when we took it out of the packaging!

Outfit #1
The length of the top makes it perfect for bottom that sits slightly higher on the waist. The bright florals on the flip skirt do a perfect job of breaking up the black and injecting a much needed pop of colour to this outfit!

We love that this necklace is quite simple, but still packs a punch. One thing this necklace does not get cudos for is it's sturdiness. The wire on which all of the individual pieces hang off is quite soft and flexible, so you have to be careful when handling it, otherwise you'll end up with something looking more like a pile of scrap metal than a necklace.

Hello Big Bird! This is what the sleeves look like unpinned.

*Top: Oasap
*Necklace: Oasap
Skirt: Supre
Shoes: Target

Outfit #2
Nothing goes with a high neck top more than a steament necklace. We love the look of worn gold jewellery against black, with the layered necklace bringing a little of complexity and boho to this outfit.

*Top: Oasap
*Necklace: Sammy Dress
Skirt: Cotton On
*Ring: Oasap
Shoes: Ipanema

Hopefully this was a one off. It definitely hasn't turned us off experimenting with bell sleeves again in the future. Let us know if you are a fan of bell sleeves in the comments below.

    1. If you have a bell sleeve top with the right amount of 'bell', then pinning the sleeves is not necessary. We just picked the wrong one!

    1. Thanks Jess! Unpinned, the sleeves were way too dramatic for us, but we thought it looked quite nice slightly pinned back.
